Manchester United will aim to avenge their first round defeat to Crystal Palace when they travel to the Selhurst Park.

Preview

Manchester United will look to run away with the maximum three points when they travel to Selhurst Park for Wednesday night's clash with Crystal Palace. A series of bad results have seen the Red Devils slip behind rivals Manchester City in the Premier League title race and it almost looks certain that the charge is the latter's to lose. With just 12 matches left of the season to play, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men are 15 points adrift of their cross-town neighbours who are on an impressive 15-game winning run in the premiership.

United enter Wednesday's encounter on the back of a drab 0-0 draw with Chelsea this weekend. So far, the Red Devils have failed to beat any of the 'top-six' sides in the English top-flight, a piece of statistic that has very much affected the club's title contention chances. Another one of such meetings is in the pipeline as the Old Trafford outfit will take on Manchester City in a Super Sunday clash this weekend and a win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday will serve them with the needed motivation.

Currently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side remains unbeaten in their last nine games across all competitions. They go into the mid-week's test in second position and with just one defeat in their last 20 Premier League outings. With three of their last four league outings ending in a draw, the essence of getting victory over Palace cannot be underemphasized, especially after failing to a famous defeat at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Roy Hogdson's men pulled off one of their best performances of the ongoing campaign to secure a 3-1 win over the Red Devils. However, since then, not much has really gone in favor of the London outfit who now sit 11 places behind the Manchester club. They have struggled for consistency this term with just three of their last 10 Premier League matches ending in wins. Five have resulted in defeats while the remaining two games have been drawn.

Needless to say, Palace are 10 points clear of the relegation zone and are close to safeguarding their status in the premiership for next season. Two more wins will be enough to guarantee them a place in the English top-flight but considering the caliber of matches they have looming, they would have to be patient to get them. Indeed, a win over Manchester United on Wednesday will be huge in the cause, although the Reds will not be keen on suffering back to back losses against the Selhurst Park outfit.
