Los Blancos had one of the worst performances ever in the competition at Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium while facing the Ukrainian side.

What was supposed to be a walk in the park for Real Madrid ended up being a nightmare, as Shakhtar Donetsk destroyed their defense in less than 20 minutes with three goals.

The Spanish giants seemed to be confused by the speed and skills shown by Shakhtar's members, who in most cases were replacing their teammates that missed this match due to COVID-19 protocols or because of injuries.

The nightmare for Los Blancos began after 28 minutes, when Teté scored the first goal for the away side. Three minutes later, an own goal by Raphael Varane confirmed the surprising result, and on top of it all, some poor defending skills by Eder Militao were used by Manor Solomon to give Shakhtar a three-goal lead after 45 minutes.

With this performance, Real Madrid has matched two of their worst performances in this competition in the 21st Century.
