Official: Borussia Dortmund completes permanent signing of ex-Juventus star 18 days after joining on loan

Borussia Dortmund has activated the transfer of Emre Can from Juventus just 18 days after the midfielder completed a loan move to the Bundesliga outfit. The 28-year-old penned a new four-year deal on Tuesday in a transfer which cost Die BVB 25 million euros (£21 million).

Can joined Juventus in June 2018 on a free transfer but the lack of playing opportunities and a subsequent dip in form curtailed his chances of earning a permanent place in the Bianconeri first team. Under Maurizio Sarri this season, the former Liverpool player started just two league games for the Old Ladies.

The German international made the switch to Dortmund on a six-month loan in January with the initial agreement having an option to buy included. Nevertheless, Lucien Favre's side did not wait to the end of the season and has moved swiftly to permanently acquire the service of the player.

Emre Can, who previously played for Frankfurt, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, is already proving to be a core member of his side. The central midfielder has so far featured in all the three matches played by his new club since moving back to Germany.

He made his debut in Dortmund's DFB Cup last-16 defeat to Werder Bremen before netting a stunner on his full debut in another 4-3 loss to former club Leverkusen.
