Despite guiding Spain to Euro 2020, Spain decided to make a managerial change.

According to the latest reports coming out of Spain, the national team have axed Roberto Moreno and are set to reappoint Luis Enrique as their manager.

Moreno, who was Enrique’s assistant coach prior to his departure from La Furia Roja, managed his last game in the 5-0 win over Romania. Despite winning them a ticket to Euro 2020, the 2010 World Cup champions will reportedly announce Roberto’s sacking today and confirm the return of Enrique.

Luis left the national team five months ago due to his daughter’s battle with bone cancer, who sadly passed away later. Moreno admitted back in September that he would step down as manager should the Asturian boss ever be ready to return and was tipped to resume his role as an assistant coach but the recent unfolding all but killed the possibility of that occurring.

RFEF president Luis Rubiales, the man infamous for sacking Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the 2018 World Cup kick-off, fueled rumors of Moreno’s sacking and failed to back him publicly. This soured the relationship between the coach and the federation.

On Monday, Roberto oversaw a 5-0 win over Romania but did not talk to the media after the game. Neither did the players. Instead, it is believed he bid farewell to the dressing room before leaving the Metropolitano stadium in tears. He was in charge for nine games in total, winning seven and drawing the other two.
