About Supercopa

Supercopa History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Supercopa Paraguaya is a football competition operated by the Paraguayan Football Association. It was created in 2019 and has been used as the closing event of every football season in the South American country since its creation. Initially, it was intended to have its first edition in 2020, but the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic forced the APF to cancel the tournament.

Contrary to other super cups from across the globe, the Supercopa Paraguaya does not necessarily feature the most recent league champion. It features the most recent champion with the highest number of points in the aggregate table for a Paraguayan season, which is played with the calendar year. The champions are paired up against the winners of the Copa Paraguaya at a neutral venue, where penalties will be used to determine the winner in the event of a draw. In case the same team earns the most points and happens to win the Copa Paraguaya, their rival will be the winner of one of the tournaments in Paraguayan football (Apertura or Clausura).

Coverage of this competition has been awarded to Tigo Star. The company has secured broadcasting rights to this competition until 2025.
