Janne Andersson, Sweden's boss, gave a number of reasons why the LA Galaxy striker will not be called up to play the tournament.

Fans that were eager to watch Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing in the World Cup have been handed a massive blow, as the tall striker has been ruled out by Swedish coach Janne Andersson from playing once again with the Blagult.

Speaking in an interview with Swedish TV show Fotbollskanalen, Andersson revealed the reasons why Zlatan will not play the tournament with the blue-and-yellow side.

"No, he will definitely not play with us, because he said no. Other players that said 'no' in the past are not included in my project. Those who will be playing are the ones that said 'yes' and want to contribute to the team," Andersson stated.

The Swedish coach admitted that if Zlatan called him, he could still join the team, but he believes that the player's decision to retire from the National Team is final.

"Zlatan and some other players stated that they were done playing for the National Team after the 2016 Euro, and I respect that. But the media is speculating about what he's been talking, and I can't relate to that. I will work with what's been discussed between us," the coach added.

Ibrahimovic had stated in the past few weeks that he would be involved in the 2018 World Cup, but he never said what his role would be. Now, "Ibra" will certainly make the trip to Russia, but maybe as part of a TV crew.
