This comes after a recent report showed that roughly $3.5b was spent on commission for agents in transfers over the last five years.

Agent fee has been a hot topic in football recently. That issue returned to the headlines with Alexis Sanchez’s Man United move, with the South American’s representative pocket huge sums to make the deal happen.

Fernando Felicevich, who represents the Chilean ace, earned $21m for brokering the Copa America winner’s Old Trafford switch. However, these astronomical agent fees could be a thing of the past after the topic was discussed at a UEFA meeting.

European football’s Professional Football Strategy Group gathered at a summit on Tuesday at Nyon, Switzerland. Several topics covered, including Financial Fair Play, squad size limits, and a '”transfer tax” (as per the Daily Mail).

The PFSG discussed putting a cap on agent fees, which has become a huge financial headache for many clubs across the continent. In a recent report done by European football’s governing body, they found out that roughly $3.5b has gone to agents as a commission for transfers in the last five years.

Sanchez’s representative was one, but Felicevich’s earnings pale in comparison to what Mino Raiola received for Pogba’s Red Devils return. Paul’s agent was given $34m when the Frenchman broke the record transfer fee two summers back.

“The PFSC endorsed a joint position on football agents/intermediaries, which is designed to shape policy change in this regard by potentially adding a cap on fees, introducing more transparency/accountability, and appropriate sanctions in case of infringement of the rules,” a statement read.

This is unlikely to affect Alexis, as the attacker awaits his Manchester United debut. Meanwhile, former club Arsenal is gearing up for their second-leg League Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea after drawing 0-0 at Stamford Bridge.
