About Florida Cup

Florida Cup History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Florida Cup is an annual friendly club competition held in the state of Florida in the United States. The tournament began in 2015 and has seen some of the top 100 European teams and top 50 South American clubs in terms of rankings participate.

The format for this competition varies due to the participating clubs and their schedules, given that the Florida Cup is held in January which is during the regular season. In the inaugural edition, which was won by Koln, four teams participated, with each club playing two games each.

This format, however, was not implemented for the 2017 edition. That year, the Florida Cup opted for a playoff system that consisted of a quarter-final, semi-final, and final stage. Furthermore, that was one of three editions in the first six tournaments in which more than four teams participated, the others being in 2016 (nine teams), and 2018 (eight teams).
