Karim Benzema stepped up and replied to his critics during the press conference where Real Madrid announced the striker's contract extension.
The under-fire French star, who has been labeled as an uneffective striker by most of Real Madrid's supporters, hinted that his playing style works for the team, even if he can't find the back of the net.
"I can't score? Well, that depends on how you look at football. To me, a striker's job isn't just about scoring goals. He has to open spaces for others to score, handing out assists and such things. I can understand people slamming me for not scoring, but there's more to football and a striker's job than just that," he stated.
The striker has never hidden from his critics, especially since he has been forced to face criticism since his arrival to the club in 2009.
"It's part of my life now. Being criticized forces you to try harder. When people take a dig at me, it's because they have high hopes on what you do, and I just take that energy and try to get better," Benzema added.
The player's current deal ended with this season. Details about his wage remain confidential.
