Real Madrid sent an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports to have the ban on their star reduced, but their attempt proved to be unsuccessful.

Real Madrid's final hope to have Cristiano Ronaldo's ban reduced has faded away, as the Court of Arbitration for Sports has kept the 5-match ban handed to the player intact. CR7 has already served a couple of those games, but the team trusted their appeal would proceed so they could be able to use the footballer on an earlier date.

Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off after a being booked twice in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup clash against Barcelona. The Portuguese ace went on to shove the referee, earning him  four more games away from the pitch.

As expected, and following the same behaviour he showed after his appeal to the Spanish Federation was turned down, CR7 used his Twitter feed to complain about the decision.

"One more incomprehensible decision. Injustices that will never bring me down. And as always I will come back stronger. Thanks to those who have supported me"

Once the 5-match ban has been confirmed, Cristiano Ronaldo will have to watch his team-mates from the stands while they battle Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad. He will be eligible to play a La Liga match until September 20, when Los Blancos host Betis.
