Team news – Barca takes on Espanyol without their star-studded squad

Barca have decided to hand several of their star names that were present in the dramatic 3-2 win over Valencia a break for Tuesday’s game, as they will report back to the club on Thursday. Of those are Lionel Messi, the man who scored the last-minute winner, and Luis Suarez; he also found the back of the net that day.

Other players to be rested for Tuesday’s game are goalkeeper Ter Stegen, Rakitic, Sergio, Luis Suárez, Messi, Neymar Jr, Umtiti, Digne, Sergi Roberto and Mascherano. Their recent injury crisis means that even more first-team players will be absent.

The likes of Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Andres Iniesta, Rafinha, Vidal, and Cillessen are all unfit and unavailable for selection. Six first team members were, however, chosen in the form of Denis, Masip, Arda, Paco Alcácer, Mathieu and André Gomes.

They will be joined by a number of youngsters from the B squad looking to impress Luis Enrique. Their Catalan opponents, though, won’t likely be as generous with their squad selection. Nonetheless, Espanyol could be without injury doubts Alvaro Vasquez (hamstring) and Oscar Duarte (ankle) for the clash.
