Team news

Genoa

The Grifone come into this game having lost last weekend's edition of the Derby della Lanterna. Despite their valiant efforts, they were unable to find a way past cross-town rivals Sampdoria, and now have won just one out of their last six league games. Ivan Juric's side have not won a home match since beating Cagliari on matchday one and will be hoping to make amends as they host Milan later today. Currently, the hosts find themselves in the bottom half of the table - albeit with a game in hand - but could move into the top half should they defeat the Rossoneri for the third straight time at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Milan

Meanwhile, Milan will be feeling very confident after defeating Juventus. In what was arguably Sunday's biggest match, the Rossoneri finally overcame the Bianconeri for the first time since 2012. Two players - Gianluigi Donnarumma and Manuel Locatelli - were especially vital in making sure that Vincenzo Montella's men made it a third win on the trot. It was Locatelli's lovely long-range effort to beat Gianluigi Buffon that put the Diavolo ahead, and Donnarumma came up big in the last moment of the game to deny Sami Khedira a likely equalizer and hand Massimiliano Allegri's side their second loss of the season. Should they win this game, they will overtake both Roma and Juventus (albeit for 24 hours) in the league standings.

Match facts and other historical stats

  • Juventus have won their past 20 home games
  • The Bianconeri failed to score for the first time when they lost 1-0 to Milan this past weekend
  • Sampdoria have won just one out of their last 10 road matches
  • They've won just one out of their last six meetings with Juventus

Team news

Juventus

Sunday marked the first time that Massimiliano Allegri has lost to former side Milan since being sacked in January 2014. The defeat cut Juve's lead at the top of the table to two, and a bad result in this game, coupled with wins for Milan and Roma, could see La Vecchia Signora drop down into third spot. Curiously enough, both of Juve's defeats so far have come at the hands of fallen Milan giants Inter and the aforementioned Diavolo, and the loss came at a high price. Paulo Dybala went off injured, meaning that Gonzalo Higuain will now be partnered with Mario Mandzukic in attack.

Meanwhile, Buffon could be given a rest, meaning that Neto will be the man in between the posts. Giorgio Chiellini, who missed out on the last match, also could make his return after an injury lay-off.

Sampdoria

As for Sampdoria, a 2-1 win in the Derby della Lanterna will surely go a long way for boosting their confidence. They haven't won a match since August and truly had fallen into a major rut that saw them tumbling down the league table. Still, the odds are heavily stacked against them. Juventus have a formidable home record - with 20 wins - and more important, Sampdoria's lousy away form (one win in ten matches) could come back to haunt them.
