2016 UEFA Best Player award

No Lionel Messi, no Luis Suarez and no Neymar. The three men that gained nominations were all part of the UEFA Champions League final.

UEFA Best Player nominees

UEFA Euro 2016 Topscorer and Player of the Tournament Antoine Griezmann is in contention to scoop his second major prize this summer. The French star played a key role carrying both Les Bleus and Atletico Madrid all the way to the Euro 2016 and 2015-16 Champions League finals respectively.

Coincidentally, he lost both to Cristiano Ronaldo's teams. The 31-year-old forward scored a massive 16 goals in the UCL to finish as the topscorer. Three of those were scored to overturn Real Madrid's 2-0 first leg defeat in their crucial quarter-final clash against Wolfsburg. Ronaldo's spot-kick also sealed Los Blancos' Undecima triumph at the expense of Antoine Griezmann's Atletico.

Gareth Bale will also fancy his chances of winning the 2016 UEFA Best Player of the Year award. His spectacular display at the 2016 European Championship cannot go unnoticed. During the tournament, the Welsh hero unleashed his power as a free-kick master. Although he lost his duel against Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo in the Euro 2016 semi-finals, Gareth Bale was also instrumental throughout Real Madrid's successful Champions League adventure.

So, who will be crowned UEFA Best Player for the year 2016? Find out by streaming the event live on TV, computer or mobile.
