Belgium have received a huge boost ahead of their tricky UEFA Euro 2016 quarter-final clash with Wales, as superstar captain Eden Hazard has been tipped to play despite initial injury worries.
This is as according to AFP (as per Marca), with the report claiming that although the Chelsea ace made his return to training in bandages on both his thigh and right knee, the 25-year-old will be given the green light to feature in the last 8 tie.
However, whether Hazard will slot right back into the starting eleven or will begin the game from the bench remains unknown. If the former Lille ace can only make a substitute cameo, it will come as a huge blow to the Red Devils’ chances of progression.
The Blues star has been instrumental for Marc Wilmots’ crew so far, topping the assists chart with 3 – tied with team-mate Kevin de Bruyne. Hazard put on a stellar display in the 4-0 win over Hungary in the round of 16 – the game which saw him pick up a quadriceps injury.
Wilmots’ decision to hand his skipper three days of rest to recover in time for the Stade Pierre Mauroy game proved decisive, as he was able to undergo a Thursday warm-up session.
Belgium will need their captain if they look to get past Wales, lead by in-form attacker Gareth Bale, with Portugal awaiting the winners of this matchup in the semis.
