The Argentinean legend believes that 'La Pulga' needs to think by himself what he wants to do after announcing his retirement from La Albiceleste.

Once again, Diego Maradona shared his thoughts about Messi's decision to leave the Argentinean National Team, and while doing so, he asked people to leave the Barca ace alone.

During an interview with Fox Sports Argentina, the 1986 World Cup winner insisted that Messi needs to take some time off to think straight, and maybe then all their pleads to have him return with La Albiceleste will be effective.

"Let's all stop busting Messi's ba**s. Let's stop blasting him for not singing our Anthem, of for not being a leader. He doesn't want to be a leader! It's not his thing. Without Leo, this team will not win anything, and if he returns, we'll fight to win the big tournaments. Let him play like he's used to, and we'll end up winning something with him on the pitch," Maradona stated.

"El Pelusa" criticized Messi earlier this month for not being a team leader, but this time, he blamed Messi's team-mates with La Albiceleste for not helping him enough.

"They are not as decisive as they need to be in order for Argentina to win a major tournament," Maradona added.

Messi, moments after losing his third consecutive final with Argentina.

The former coach talked about what he would say to Messi in order to convince him to re-consider, although he would choose not to do it immediately.

"I'd tell him to take a break, forget about football for a while. Then, in a month or so, I'd ask him to come back. If we keep on doing talk shows about him snubbing Argentina, he'll grow tired of the subject. We have to keep calm and let him take time to decide," Maradona concluded.
