Belgium's Jan Vertonghen will miss Friday's quarter-final clash against Wales after suffering an ankle injury during Thursday's team training.

Vertonghen is a vital part of Mar Wilmots' side, as his absence against Bale and Co. is a huge loss to the Red Devils. Belgium will already be without suspended Barcelona centre-back Thomas Vermaelen, which means Wilmots might start the inexperienced 21-year-old Jordan Lukaku to deputise at left-back.

Belgium head coach Marc Wilmots confirmed in Thursday's press conference that Vertonghen tore multiple ligaments in his ankle and has been ruled out of their UEFA Euro 2016 quarter-final clash against Wales.Belgium

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Wales' coach Chris Coleman admits Vertonghen's injury is a huge loss for the Red Devils, but insists his side must focus solely on themselves.

"He's a good player, an outstanding performer, if he misses the game it's a big loss, but they have so much talent, but we can't look past ourselves.

"We only concentrate on ourselves. And we need to do that. We need to ensure there's a high level or urgency about us. Once we get that right we know we can be in the game. I don't know who is available; I just know about us."

Despite this major blow for the Belgians, better news arrived for their side, as captain Eden Hazard took part in the team training after missing two sessions due to a thigh injury he picked up during Belgium's convincing 4-0 win over Hungary.

Belgium will go head-to-head with Bale and Co. on Friday at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in the city of Lille.
