Switzerland may be one of the underdogs in the 2016 UEFA European Championship, but Vladimir's team has all the right elements to shock many teams.

This will be Vladimir Petkovic's first ever Euro contest as the head coach of Switzerland, hoping to make a name out of himself by leading his team to greater heights.

Switzerland's UEFA Euro history

Switzerland qualified for its first ever UEFA European Championship in 1996, but the team did not make it far in the tournament. They finished at the bottom of Group A after drawing with England and losing to the Netherlands and Scotland. They then qualified for the 2004 Euros but were slapped by yet another group stage exit. Their most recent appearance in this competition was in 2008 as co-hosts with Austria. However, they were eliminated after only two games.

Recent form

Switzerland booked their spot at the UEFA Euro 2016 with a stunning 7-0 win over San Marino on 9 October 2015, as they were drawn in qualifying Group G. Furthermore, in the past 12 months, 'La Nati' has managed to secure six wins out of their last 10 matches. In their last five UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers, the team picked up four wins and one loss (against England on 8 September 2015). In addition, Vladimir's side holds the 14th position in the May 2016 FIFA World Rankings.

Manager's profile

Head coach Vladimir Petkovic left Lazio in January of 2014 to take charge of the national team after the World Cup. He has yet to taste title glory with his team, as he intends to make his home country proud with strong performances from his men in this high-profile tournament. The Swiss manager values high-energy and high-pressing tactics. These pressure the opposition aggressively when defending. The coach usually lines up his players in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. With his specific playing style integrated into his lads, Switzerland's boss is aiming for a great Euro campaign this summer.

Vladimir hung up his boots at the age of 36, playing for first division clubs both in Bosnia and Switzerland and now has the desire to implement his success in his coaching profession with his national team.
