Premier League action resumes this weekend as Swansea host Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium.

Following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Villarreal in the first leg clash of the UEFA Europa League semi-final, Liverpool are expected to return home fuming and baying for their next opponent’s blood. Unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s men, they will have to wait a little bit longer to enjoy the Anfield atmosphere as they travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea.

Mathematically, Liverpool still have a chance to secure a Europa League spot but the likes of Francesco Guidolin’s men stand between the Reds and their dreams. Currently sitting at the 15th position on the log, the Swans could rise up to the 11th position- mathematically speaking. The four teams above Swansea on the league table have 41 points each, a true reflection of how easy it would be for the hosts to climb higher than their current position with a win.

But this match is expected to be a warm-up for Jurgen Klopp’s men ahead of what could be a thrilling second-leg tie against Villarreal at Anfield, if the Liverpool vs Dortmund clash at the same venue was anything to go by.

Key match stats

On paper, the Kops come into this match with the upper hand. They have won their last five matches against Swansea in all competitions. Klopp’s men are currently on a goal-scoring spree in the league; nine of their last 10 league games have registered over 2.5 goals. The Merseyside club has scored at least two goals in 9 of their last 10 games in the league, but will now face a Swansea side that has proven to be a hard nut to crack at home in their last three games. The Swans have not conceded a goal in three of their last three league games at home and will be hoping to extend the good record when they welcome their weekend visitors, who have not tasted defeat in nine of the last 10 league games.

Team news

Swansea City

When it comes to team fitness, Swansea will play without Leroy Fer and Alberto Paloschi who have been sidelined due to hamstring injuries. However, coach Guidolin could welcome the likes of Barrow, Ki and Montero back to the starting lineup.

Liverpool

Klopp is expected to field a number of youngsters since he has nothing else to fight for this season apart from the Europa League title. As a result, Christian Benteke could lead the attack for the visitors. Some youngsters expected to fixture in this match include Danny Ward, Sheyi Ojo, Connor Randall, Cameron Brannagan and Brad Smith.
