He was the goalkeeper during the scrimmage. Howard just recorded his sixth clean sheet with Everton the day before.

Everton's goalkeeper Tim Howard took some time off from playing with his team to get a chance and experience what Everton's wheelchair team is all about. He joined them for a training session at Croxteth Training Center last week.

Howard was hands-on during his time with the Everton with the Community team. He started by greeting the players and then joined in on the practice drills. Out of the 13 teams in the program, the United States international player joined the team currently sitting third In the WFA National League in the Championship Division.

He had his own wheelchair waiting for him when the practice began. Then he tried to learn as much as possible with some short skills and shooting practice drills. When it was time to simulate a game, Howard went back to being the goalie, just as he does when he is with the Toffees' Premier League team.

"I've really enjoyed myself, the guys were great with me and were really helping me along as it was my first time in a motorized wheelchair," Howard said after the practice was over.

Howard was impressed by the skill from the players on the team. He was glad with the experience and also happy to see the contributions from the program with the community.

"It's been great for me to come out and see not just what Everton in the Community does but to also be a part of it and lend a helping hand."

The team was also glad that the 36-year-old goalkeeper took some time off to visit them. This might not be the last time he is invited to join in on the fun of wheelchair football.

"Tim is a hero and role model to many of our players here today and to have him come down and get involved today with our session is something that they will talk about for weeks on end."
