Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho does not have a hard time picking who his best student is, and he goes by the name of Didier Drogba. Even at 36, “The Special One” does not believe Drogba’s career is over.
“I know what he means as a player and as a person. That is why this combination of the player and the person is so amazing,” are some of the words Mourinho expressed to Drogba in a tribute.
He had seen him play in Marseille back when Mouriho was still coaching in Portugal and Drogba was with Marseille. They were group rivals but they quickly became friends.
“In Porto you don’t have money to buy me, but if you move to another club where you do have money I will go with you,” Drogba told Mourinho back in 2004.
When Mourinho arrived to Chelsea, Drogba was at the top of the list of players he wanted to sign. The same year both had met was the same year they started working together at Chelsea. It took £24 million to get Deedee at Stamford Bridge.
The Ivorian striker received a special recognition by the Football Writers Association on Sunday
Four FA Cup titles, three premier league championships and one UEFA Champions League title in 2012 are among his achievements in his first sting with the team. He then left for Shanghai Shenhua (2012) and Galatasaray (2013) before returning to the Bridge in 2014.
“When I left this club (for the first time in 2012), I was saying that I had done everything I wanted to do,” said Drogba while admitting that he was wrong and wants to achieve more with the team.
“I think we can already say he has the best-value signing for Chelsea in relation to what he has done for the club over so many years,” Mourinho claimed to the Football Writers Association.
The same association honored the striker for his great career and contributions to the sport on Sunday. A recognition Drogba expressed to be happy to receive. He pointed out that he would like to stay with Chelsea after this season is over.
Drogba has been a good friend of Mourinho even before both signed with Chelsea in 2004.
