Ricardo Pelaez, who played for both America and Chivas, stated Guadalajara is a truly important team and has to remain playing in Mexico's top flight.

Club America will try to extend Chivas' crisis this Saturday, when both clubs re-enact Mexico's top rivalry. Ricardo Pelaez, former player for both teams and Sports President for Las Aguilas, stated the team is ready to take on their historic nemesis, regardless of what happens with Chivas' relegation issues.

"I don't think they will be relegated. We don't want to hurt anyone or boast before such an important match. We just want to give our fans the chance to celebrate a victory, and let them deal with the consequences of losing against us. They are one of Mexico's most important teams, that's why I believe they can turn things around, but let's hope they do it after we defeat them," Pelaez stated in a press conference.

Pelaez refused to talk about his past as a Chivas player, since he has to respect his current employers. Furthermore, one of Mexico's all-time top strikers is sure Las Aguilas are the most important team in Mexican football.

"It's part of my past, but that's it. I only have to speak about America because I work here, and there's no doubt in my mind we are the greatest club in Mexico. You either love us or hate us, but we are never irrelevant. As Mexico's greatest team, we need to give our fans one more victory that can erase all the doubts, and there's not a better chance to do so than tomorrow," Pelaez added.

Club America lead the Apertura 2014 tournament and have secured a place in the playoffs, while Guadalajara have been struggling to find their feet, currently holding the 17th spot out of 18 teams playing in the Mexican tournament.
