The European Football Association are to submit a proposal to FIFA in which they suggest the Qatar World Cup be held between 28 April and 29 May

The European Club Association (ECA) will be submitting a proposal next week to FIFA in which they will request for the 2022 World Cup,  in Qatar, to tbe held between 28 May 29 and April 29.

Ever since being awarded the honor of host nation back in 2010, much debate has been surrounding what the timing of football's most prestigious tournament be, and as to whether it should be held in the summer, as usual, or winter.

But now, the ECA, which represents 214 of Europe's biggest names in football, including Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Barcelona, will now suggest for the World Cup to moved to the season of spring.

"In our opinion, this proposal is the best option," said the association's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"It takes into account the climate issue, while preserving the traditional running of a club football season.

"This proposal needs to be seriously considered by all stakeholders. It is an achievable solution."

The ECA, along with German World Cup-winning captain and Bayern Munich honorary president, believe that this proposal, which will see the domestic leagues begin two weeks earlier and the FA Cup finish in June, will have minimum impact on international confederation competitions, the 2023 African Cup of Nations in particular.

The ECA's proposed time frame, which they argue will offer a more ideal temperature for the players due to the summer heat experience in Qatar, may collide with the holy Islamic holiday of Ramadan, which is believed to come between 3 April and 2 May, a month of fasting in which eating and drinking in public is illegal in the Middle-East state.

UEFA, on the other side, are in favor of the World Cup being held in January and February of 2023. This though was dismissed by FIFA, who stipulate that the tournament should be held in 2022, as it will also coincide with the Winter Olympics.

Fifa president Sepp Blater is for the tournament being held from November to December, tipped to be the most likely outcome. However, this time frame will affect the much-beloved UEFA Champions League.
