The former Real Madrid player and manager believes Messi has been holding his ability back since the past World Cup.

It seems criticism will keep haunting Messi until he shows his previous form. Today, Jorge Valdano shared his thoughts about what he feels is going on with Barcelona's number 10, and how his shape is not helping his Los Culés or his National Team.

"Looking a the last game, Messi is a little off-form. His position has changed on the pitch and now his job is more to provide assists, but he has lost his ability to disrupt the defense, something which used to solve many past games for Barça," Valdano stated.

Valdano, who worked with Real Madrid as general manager, coach and also as a player, was not happy with Messi's display during the past World Cup, despite the fact that La Albiceleste played the Final match againt Germany.

"During the World Cup, we saw that something was up with Messi; he walked around the pitch. He was physically not at his best and maybe that is the reason for playing further back, to not tire himself so much", he added.
