According to reports, the former Real Madrid player evaded one million euros between the years 2005 and 2010.

Former Inter Milan and Real Madrid defender Fabio Cannavaro is being investigated for tax evasion in his hometown. The 2006 World Cup winner with Italy had tax authorities from the city of Naples seizing goods totalling up to one million euros, according to reports.

Cannavaro and his wife are being linked to an investigation regarding a luxury yacht company, which has been accused of evading more than one million euros in taxes from 2005-10. A statement from Cannavaro’s lawyers said that the inquiry involves a company owned only by the player’s wife, adding that the couple is convinced it did no wrong.

Cannavaro is the latest in a long line of sports stars investigated in Italy for tax evasion, with previous cases focusing on Diego Maradona, Valentino Rossi and Alberto Tomba. The 41-year old former player is currently linked to Al-Ahli, where he became a global ambassador and club assistant after retiring in 2011.
