Champions League fans will be greeted with what promises to be an exciting fixture as Liverpool vs Real Madrid goes live on Wednesday at Anfield.

Los Blancos have scored five goals apiece in their last two matches and will be hoping to continue the goal frenzy when they face a Liverpool side which has been struggling this season.

After a successful campaign last time out which saw them clinching a place in Europe's elite competition the Reds have failed to keep the momentum going. After eight games Rodger's men are placed fifth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Chelsea and have been very unconvincing so far.

Liverpool did pick a scrappy 3-2 win over QPR in their last fixture,  but they will have to put forth a much better display if they are to get anything out of Wednesday's match.

Italian international Mario Balotelli who has been assigned the task to lead the attack following Luis Suarez's departure has been in woeful form and is yet to register a goal for the Reds in the Premier League. Such is his form that Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has advised Brendan Rodgers to drop the former AC Milan striker for Wednesday's game.

"[Balotelli] doesn't run around enough," he said. "Against Real Madrid you've got to get that crowd going. You need to get back to Liverpool of last year and that pressing.

"There's got to be an energy about Liverpool that we haven't seen; we've seen it once this season at Spurs. It's going on too long now and we can't keep waiting. It's a huge game and Liverpool have to get something from it."

"The decision I would make would be to bring Coutinho in for Balotelli. I wouldn't play Balotelli in this game. I would play Sterling, whether you'd call it a centre forward or a false nine."

Real Madrid on the other hand will want to maintain their good form ahead of the Clasico during the weekend but will have to remain vary of a Liverpool side which is capable of causing an upset. Ancelotti's men are on a terrific run having won all of their last seven matches in all competitions. Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo has been on a devastating run and has scored 15 goals in just eight La Liga games. The former Man United star has scored in both the Champions League matches Madrid have played so far this season and he will be hoping to keep the good form going.

Welsh international Gareth Bale however will not be able to play a part against Liverpool after suffering a hip injury. Liverpool on the other hand will once again be without striker Daniel Sturridge whereas defender Mamadou Sakho is also a doubt.
