The Mexican center back got injured when referee Miguel Angel Ayala forced Monterrey and Chivas to start their Matchday 8 fixture for the Apertura 2014 despite weather conditions

Liga MX officials have one more reason to feel bad about themselves. Last Saturday, the league's board decided the match between Monterrey and Chivas had to be played, no matter what the weather conditions were. The field was flooded due to heavy raining in the city of Monterrey, and even though the referees tested the field's conditions, the decision was made to carry on with the match.

Nine minutes into the game, the league's negligence was punished, after Mexican defender Hiram Mier injured his left knee. The player was coming back from another injury, which sidelined him for the entire Clausura 2014 tournament, and will now be out for another six weeks, practically ending his regular season hopes.

"The player underwent surgery to his left knee this morning, and he will start his rehabilitation process tomorrow at the team's clubhouse," the club informed in a press release.

Monterrey's coach Carlos Barra felt sorry for the player's fate, since something could have been done to avoid this from happening:

"I think we shouldn't have agreed to start the game in the first place. There was no way the weather conditions would have improved so we could put on a better show for the crowd. With a pitch like that, the risk of getting injured increases, and unfortunately Hiram paid the consequences," Barra told the press.

The remaining minutes of this match will be played on November 15th.
