The Uruguayan centerback will play at Stadium of Light after a one year loan was agreed between the two teams.

After Luis Suarez's departure to Barcelona and the signing of Mario Balotelli, Liverpool sought to make cap room for this year. Spending last year at Uruguayan side Nacional, Sebastian Coates will make a move to Stadium of Light to play for Sunderland.

The 23-year old Uruguayan has enjoyed little playing time with the Reds since his arrival in 2011, earning only 24 games. With this season-long loan, Sunderland may end their transfer window chapter after seven previous arrivals.

The only upside for the Black Cats will turn out to be the departure of Fabio Borini. Under Premier League rules, a team cannot have more than one loan deal with another League team, so the striker will have to return to Merseyside.

Borini was linked to Queens Park Rangers during Deadline Day, but the Hoops and the striker couldn't settle terms and the deal went under. "His wage demands are well beyond what we could afford," QPR coach Harry Redknapp stated.

On a related story, the Reds confirmed late in the day an agreement with Stoke City, which will see winger Oussama Assaidi join the Potters on a season-long loan.
