Defending champions Manchester City will face Stoke at the Etihad on Saturday, the 30th of August in a Premier League encounter.

Man City have begun the new season like they ended the last having won both the matches they have played so far in dominant fashion. The Citizens won their opening match against Newcastle and passed their next test against Liverpool with flying colours condemning the Reds to a 3-0 defeat.
Stevan Jovetic was the star of the show scoring a wonderful brace which guided Man City to an easy win. Sergio Aguero on the other hand scored seconds after coming on as a substitute to round off an impressive 3-0 victory for the Etihad side.

Man City will now be eager to retain the league title which they emphatically won last season and the Citizens look in a strong position having also made a number of signings. One of these players is French international Eliaquim Mangala who was acquired from Porto for a hefty 32 million pounds. City have spent extravagantly on their transfers over the years but according to Stoke manager Mark Hughes, captain Vincent Kompany has been the clubs best signing in recent years.

The Belgian was signed by Hughes during his stint at the Etihad and claims the reliable centre back was definitely a bargain at 6 million pounds.

"In terms of pound for pound he has to be way up there for the best piece of transfer business -- especially when you look at certain levels of finance being thrown at mediocre players," said Hughes ahead of his return to the Etihad Stadium. "Mangala was signed for 32 million and he is unproven in the Premier League so that would be a starting point.”

"You look at the current market and Kompany is a huge asset to the club because if they tried to replace him like-for-like they would struggle to get someone in for the best part of 50 million,” he added.

City will once again be without their Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo who suffered an injury during preseason whereas summer signing Eliaquim Mangala has not attained full fitness yet. Stoke on the other hand will be without centre back Robert Huth as well as loanee Victor Moses, who are both not match fit for Saturday’s tie.
