Del Bosque decided to include four new faces for Spain’s friendly match against France and first 2016 Euro qualifier against Macedonia.

A new era begins for Spain after their disappointing exit from this year’s World Cup in Brazil, where they didn’t manage to get through the group stages. The 23-man squad was confirmed on Friday, and surprisingly, Pepe Reina, Piqué, Fernando Torres and Juan Mata were not considered.

For this new cycle, Del Bosque decided to rejuvenate the squad and name four new faces after key players like Xavi Hernández, Xabi Alonso and David Villa have already announced their retirement from international duty. Espanyol’s goalkeeper Kiko Casillas, Athletic’s defender Mikel San José, Atlético’s midfielder Raúl García and Valencia’s forward Paco Alcácer are the four uncapped players that will look to make their debut with ‘La Roja’.

Regarding the call-up, Del Bosque commented:

“We need to have a perspective, this is a list for the present which is expected to develop during the next two years,” “We had a bad performance in Brazil and we are looking forward to move on with this squad.”
