After losing his starting spot at Real Madrid, the veteran Spanish defender is set to ply his trade in the Bundesliga

After some speculation surrounding his future in La Liga, Xabi Alonso is set to finally depart Real Madrid.

The veteran midfielder recently called time on his career with Spain's national squad after over a decade donning La Furia Roja's kit, and now will be moving on to continue his club football in a new country.

Bayern Munich have been linked previously with the 32-year-old and now are set to finally secure his signature as they sought to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park due to injuries to key players such as Javi Martinez and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

"We have basically reached an agreement. The player will arrive in Munich later on Thursday to undergo his medical," the club confirmed in a recent press conference.

Alonso first signed with the 2014 Champions League winners in the summer of 2009, for €30 million in what was a mega-spending transfer window for the capital club as they also purchased Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema among others.
