Arsenal have confirmed that the French striker will be out for a long recuperating period.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud had suffered an injury in his side's clash with Everton.

Reports claimed that the French international would be out for quite a while with a broken bone, and now his club has stated what many fans were hoping to avoid this season.

As per Arsenal's official website:

"Olivier Giroud has undergone successful surgery to repair a small fracture to his left tibia.

Scans following Saturday’s match at Everton confirmed the injury and after [consulting with] specialists in the following days, the decision was taken to have surgery in London on Wednesday afternoon.

He is expected to return to action in approximately four months."

While Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has not publicly admitted his club will look at other striking options, numerous reports indicated that they just might have to make an emergency purchase before the transfer window closes, with a whole slew of players on their radar.
