Klose retires from the German team having played 137 matches and scoring 71 goals. He topped Ronaldo as the World Cup’s top scorer in Brazil.

Nearly two months after winning the World Cup, Miroslav Klose explained his decision to retire from the National Team to a local newspaper. Klose, 36, will not be available to play for the first time in 14 years.

“It’s not very easy for me to let it go. I do actually feel a little queasy when I think Im only going to watch it from the stands,” he explained during an interview.

Currently playing for Lazio, Klose stated before he would go on playing for his country, but he reconsidered after playing the tournament in Brazil.

“It was pretty clear to me that if you want to play with the best, you have to be in top physical shape. It’s best for me to step down now and not end up chasing young players around the pitch,”, he added.

“Germany has no problem in attack. Mario Gomez will come back and he is a like-for like replacement for me. Mario Gotze and Thomas Müller are going to define this team for years with their extraordinary talent,” Klose concluded.

The German striker is under contract with Italian side Lazio, and has stated he will play on at least two more years.
