Italian sides Inter Milan and AS Roma will clash at the Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, the 2nd of August.

Italian league fans will get a true taste of what beholds them in the upcoming season as two of the top sides from the country meet one another before the commencement of the 2014/2015 season. Both sides will be looking for a win which would enhance their chances of making it to the final of the competition.
Roma pulled off an impressive victory last time out as they clinched a 1-0 victory over European champions Real Madrid thereby effectively ending their chances of retaining the title.

The only goal of the match was scored by Roma’s talismanic captain Francesco Totti after good link up play with Alessandro Florenzi.

Roma head coach Rudi Garcia seems in a buoyant mood ahead of the season and has claimed that winning the Scudetto would be his team’s top most priority whereas the team will have to work harder to achieve any sort of success in the Champions League.

"Real Madrid are ahead of us," Garcia said.

"We won a friendly match. Of course it is always better to win. We are ambitious and it is nice to dream, because if you do not dream then you get bored.”

"In the Champions League we are thinking of progressing from the group stage. Our priority is the league and we want to finish on top.”

"There are so many good teams but we want to finish out ahead."

"What do Roma lack for the Champions League right now? It's hard to say, we still have much to do. However, we are on the right track."

Roma enjoyed a fine campaign last season and the side’s veteran captain Totti has also urged his teammates to put up a better fight next season.

"Is the objective the Scudetto? Yes, we want to do better than last season. This club must fight for the Scudetto," he added.

Inter on the other hand began the tournament on a positive note as they got the better of Real Madrid in their first match. The match was highlighted by a wonder goal from Gareth Bale but it was Inter who got the final laugh as they picked up a win on penalties.

Their second match against Man United also ended with scores leveled however this time around Inter were not able to make the most out of the penalty shoot outs and lost to the Red Devils who successfully converted all their penalties.

United’s former captain Nemanja Vidic went up against his previous side for the first time and Inter midfielder Mateo Kovacic has hailed him as a magnificent capture for the club.

"Vidic is an amazing player with vast experience," the Croatia international said via the official Inter Twitter account.

"Inter really needed someone like him."
