The Red Devils will face LA Galaxy for the first time in a preseason friendly on Wednesday, the 23rd of July at the Rose Bowl.

The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager hugely impressed as his rather mediocre Netherlands side made it to the semi-final of the World Cup. The Dutch international will now be hoping he can match the lofty standards at his new club as he prepares to take charge of his first match as manager of Manchester United.

The Red Devils endured a disappointing campaign last time out and will be hoping to make amends this season. Their hunger for retribution will begin from preseason as they hope to prepare themselves well before the commencement of the 2014/2015 Premier League season.

In their opening match they face one of the most competent teams from the US. The Red Devils will be using this fixture as a warm up game to get ready for the Guinness International Champions Cup which kicks off from the 24th of July. United will face Italian side AS Roma in their opening fixture on the 26th of July.

Man United enjoyed a successful tour when they visited America back in 2011. In the four matches they played against MLS oppositions, the Red Devils ran rampant winning all their matches and ended the tour with a massive 18-1 aggregate score line.

However with the popularity of the game growing momentously every passing year, United must bear in mind that that it might not be a simple ride for the Red Devils on Wednesday. Furthermore United are currently in a rebuilding phase and in his first match in charge of the club, Van Gaal might be looking to experiment a few things thus it is inevitable that the Red Devils will not be at their supreme best.

A few of the World Cup stars will not be making the trip to America, with Holland star Robin Van Persie a notable absentee. But most of United’s first choice players will be present as they look to impress their new manager.

Van Gaal himself has expressed his delight on the early preparations and has lauded his squad’s desire and commitment.

"I have to say that it has been fantastic,” he said.

"Maybe you think every coach who is new should say that but I mean it. They are anxious to follow the instructions of my assistants. The focus I have seen in the training sessions is top-level, but we have to see if the performance is top-level.”

"But I am very happy with the labour of my players in the days I have been with them."

The Dutchman is expecting a stiff challenge against what he believes is a very strong LA Galaxy side but is confident his team can get the result.

"We have analysed Galaxy and I expect a very organised and tactical team that are aggressive in attack and want to press," he said.

"They are already in the rhythm of the season and we started three days ago. We are not well prepared or fit yet, but I hope we can give a good performance."

Wednesday’s fixture will be the first time United fans will get to see new signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw in Man United colors. Much has been spoken about the talent of both the individuals and they will be raring to prove themselves during their debuts.
