'La Pulga' missed a crucial penalty that motivated Los Periquitos to beat Barcelona for the first time since 2009.

What seemed to be a walk in the park for Barcelona ended up being a nightmare, as Los Blaugranas lost their first game of the season against one of their bitter rivals.

Lionel Messi had much to do with this loss, as the Argentine superstar missed yet another penalty this season, prompting a furious reaction by the hosts, who made it all count with a late goal by Oscar Melendo.

We all know that nobody's perfect, but Messi's penalty-taking skills have to be analyzed.

This victory for Espanyol ended quite a streak for Los Periquitos when facing Los Blaugranas.

"Espanyol hadn't beaten Barcelona in a Copa match in almost 48 years (2-1, May 3, 1970). They had 3 draws and 12 losses since then."

If that wasn't enough, tonight's win for Espanyol ended a nine-year streak without a win in all competitions, and also granted them their first home win against their bitter rivals at Cornellá El Prat Stadium.
