About Campeonato Mineiro 1

Campeonato Mineiro 1 History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage

The Campeonato Mineiro is an association football tournament from Brazil that is organized by the Minas Gerais Football Federation. It saw the light in 1915 and known as City Championship until 1958, when it was elevated to a professional status and rebranded as Campeonato Mineiro.

The Campeonato Mineiro has turned into a popular competition for fans across the globe. This is due to the presence of teams such as Atlético Mineiro, América Mineiro and Cruzeiro, who have greeted some of the most talented players in the country.

The format used in the Campeonato Mineiro sees 12 teams being drawn into three groups of four, forcing them to play against all rivals to determine their placement in their lot. Eventually, all group winners and the best runner-up reach the semifinals, while the three teams with the worst record enter a relegation playoff where two teams with the least points will be sent to the Modulo II, the second division of the football ladder in this state.

The teams that reach the finals will play home and away games in both the semifinals and the title match, having the team with the best record hosting the return leg in each tie. Penalties are only used in the final to crown a champion.

Coverage of the Campeonato Mineiro has been awarded to Rede Globo, SporTV, and Premiere FC, all of them with select games to broadcast or stream. This broadcasting rights package has been awarded until 2026.
